  • I am writing this review under my husbands name. I went today for a name change because I recently got married. I had read over the other reviews before I went to the office, and I was expecting an awful experience. This was not the case. The security guard that has been criticized over and over in the reviews, was one of the nicest, most helpful people I have encountered in some time. Funny though... I'm white.. so how could that be? I was in and out in about fifteen minutes. Great experience and I really appreciate how I was treated!

    Wife made original post, she asked me to redo it. Read end for her original post. First, the problem all lies with the rude person at window #1. I do not know her name, even on the corrected document provided on our return visit 8.10.17, her name was not provided. Black hair, glasses, and bad customer interaction skills. First, the wife gave her the name change application...it was not reviewed during the data entry process. Second, wife was not given documentation to show the new information, so nothing was verified. Person at window #1 even said that there was no paperwork given out for the name change. So now the next problem. Wife goes to get new drivers license. When she finally gets to the examiner, he asks for paperwork from SSA. She says she got none. Examiner said "it was a woman at window #1, wasn't it?" Caught wife off guard. Examiner was not able to process without paper, but wife said he was able to do it a different way. Said examiner recommended that we contact the manager at that SSA office to inform them that window #1 is not doing the process properly. Fast forward to return visit on 8.10.17 when wife got new SS card the last name was spelled wrong, and the address that was correct before 8.3 visit is now incorrect. Wife calls office, asks to speak with manager, is NOT put through to manager, they make wife tell call taker the problem, wife gets a not-so-pleasant answer of "well there's nothing that can be done about it now, you have to come in and do it all over again." Wife very upset. Calls me to vent a bit and says she is going back. I tell wife I am going with her. We arrive. Awesome security personnel, friendly except when people do not follow the rules about cell phones in there, but they handle it professionally (yet same people felt the need to have to be told 3x by security) Anyway, we finally get called up to, yep you guessed it...window #1...the ONLY window taking walk-ins (appointments go straight to other windows). So we go up, tell person what happened. When we tell her wrong name and wrong address, she very rapidly replies in a rude tone "well if the address was wrong then how did you get the card?" to which the wife replied "because it's not a big road, the street name was changed for no reason but the incorrect spelling was still enough for the USPS to make the delivery." We offer the incorrect card, lady at window 1 says in a very bad attitude "I can't take that" wo wife retrieves her original license with maiden name, along with the duplicate copy of the name change application she had, and gives them both to bad attitude at window 1. She takes them, speaks very abruptly and defensively through the correction process, gets up from her desk a couple times to retrieve papers and comes back with the PIECE OF PAPER THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE REVIEWED WHEN THEY MAKE A CHANGE!!!!! We check everything, looks good, we walk out and tell her to have a nice day. Now why did I go through all the time of posting this here? Because I am hoping that this gets to management at SSA and the proper employee gets re-trained on their job, since they will not let us talk to management on the phone. Otherwise I would have gone to management directly. Below is wife's original review: *Writing this under my husband's account* I went today to legally change my name due to being remarried. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was there. The security guard was very helpful and even made a few jokes with me. The waiting area was relaxed. A little girl came in and asked the guard for a piece of paper to draw on and he gave her a clipboard, pen, and paper. He and the little girl had a sweet exchange of smiles. The lady at window number 1 was efficient. There was a little trouble finding my information in the system, but she was patient. She did have a very professional attitude, but by the end I had her smiling and wished her a great day. I didn't expect to be so pleased by my experience. I appreciate all of their hard work.
